Amazing and magic place, Villa del Balbianello is located on the top of Dosso di Lavedo, in Lenno. The villa was built for the cardinal Angelo Maria Durini at the end of XVIII century on the ruins of a franciscan monastery; Villa del Balbianello belongs to the FAI since 1988.
The access to the villa from the lake is the most suggestive, since it allows the visitors to admire the construction in all its splendid beauty. The boulevard that crosses a beautiful terraced garden leads to the loggia, from where you can have a breathtake view of the lake: on one side the area called Tremezzina and on the other Isola Comacina.
The villa conserves the facade and the two bell towers of the preexisting monastery today; it shows the taste of his last owner, Guido Monzino, inside. His passion fort adventure is proved by the English and French furnitures of XVII and XVIII century, the rich Chinese, African and Precolombian artefacts or the extended collection of pictures with landscapes of Lake Como.
Villa del Balbianello had become the perfect location for universal movies thanks to its fascination: from ‘Jackpot’ by Mario Orfini to ‘A month by the lake’ by John Irvin. Two more recent examples are ‘Star wars’ episod two, ‘Attack of the clones’ and Casinò Royale by Martin Campbell.
